Siding Houston
Choosing siding for your Houston home comes down to these 4 issues:
- How will it look?
- How long will it last?
- How much maintenance will it need?
- How much will it cost?
So, you might be thinking that the best solutions would be: Something that lasts forever; has no maintenance; looks fantastic; and is free! Right?
Well, we can’t really come up with a solution that matches that criteria exactly but, let’s talk about how well James Hardie – Hardie Plank Siding accomplishes 80 percent or more of that goal!
How Will Hardie Siding Look on your Houston Home?
Hardie is manufactured to look just like wood. There are a variety of siding and trim products in the Hardie line to make it possible to replace all of your exterior wood siding and trim with Hardie’s fiber cement products.
Hardiplanks, the most well known of the line, is manufactured in several different widths and is applied horizontally, overlapped, starting from the bottom of a wall working the way up to the top of the walls. Our installation experts start with a starter strip which is the base nearest the ground and is critical to get right. Then a gauge is used to get the exact amount of overlap or
reveal for your style of home. In most cases, the nails are hidden by the overlap…referred to as blind nailed. In higher wind zones, additional “face nailing” is required.Hardipanel is available in sheets for the styles of homes that use panels and they are available in the wood grain finish as well as a stucco finish. Harditrim, Hardisoffit and fascia boards are all manufactured and available in wood grains and smooth surfaces.
So, Your home is going to look like NEW! It’s not some alien product that will make your home look like a manufactured shed like some of the aluminum siding does. Your home will look warm and inviting and like it was made with wood products.
How Long Will Hardie Plank Last?
A lot longer than wood is the short answer. Since Hardie products are made from fine silica sand and cement in a proprietary process (James Hardie spends $20 million a year on Research and Development), it is designed not to rot from moisture or weather exposure. With wood, when paint wears off moisture gets in and rot starts. With Hardie, not only does paint stay on better (due to their factory applied primer) moisture does not seep in and allow rot to begin.
Also, unlike wood, Hardie is resistant to termites and other pests and it is flame resistant enough to be classified as brick or stone with your insurance company! Check out the 30 year warranty on HardiePlank Siding by clicking on the warranty image above. Wait…backed by a 30 year warranty? I guess it’s safe to say that Hardie will well outlast the 30 years and just may never need to be replaced again!
Will Your Hardiplank Require Lots of Maintenance?
About as much maintenance as your patio. Seriously, all you’ll need to do is occasionally hose it off. The “maintenance kit” for hardiplank is already around most Houston homes. A garden hose and a spray nozzle.
Of course, you may want to repaint someday…in about 15 years! Because of the special primer used, good quality household exterior paint (we use a lot of Sherwin Williams SuperPaint) is going to cover quickly using less paint and is going to stay on.
This is about as close to zero maintenance as we see.
What Does Hardie Siding Cost?
So, how are we doing so far? Hardie Looks Fantastic, Will Outlast a Generation, Is More Durable than Wood, and Requires Less Maintenance than your concrete patio!
That leads us to “How much does Hardie Cost?”. Obviously, Save On Siding is a complete (turnkey) Siding Replacement Company in Houston. That means we don’t sell hardie on line and don’t provide guesstimates online or over the phone. The process of measuring your square footage and choosing from the product is just not conducive to providing an online store.
That being said, How about is we stop by for about an hour and do all the measuring for you? We’ll bring the samples of Hardie Siding and paint swatches with us. We’ll then provide you with a computer generated cost breakdown of what it will take to repair or replace your siding. Oh, and we do that for free!
